In short, Castellón de la Plana combines history, culture, nature and cuisine, making it an attractive destination for tourists with a wide range of interests.
Day 2: Stage 1: Valdealgorfa – Horta de Sant Joan
We’ll welcome you in Castellón or Valencia and take you to Valdealgorfa, where we’ll hold a briefing on the route, explain your experience in detail and hand over your equipment.
Discover four major Spanish provinces in a single trip: Teruel, Tarragona, Castellón and Valencia. In the municipality of Valdealgorfa, part of the province of Teruel in the
autonomous community of Teruel, your route will begin along the Val del Zafán Greenway until you reach your first destination, where you’ll spend the night: Horta de Sant Joan.
Today’s stage along the Val del Zafán Greenway begins in this charming village; throughout the journey, you’ll be surrounded by spectacular scenery, including mountains, fields and rivers. The Greenway is dotted with historical remains, such as bridges and tunnels dating back to the railway era, offering a link to the region’s industrial past.
Arrival in Horta de Sant Joan, a village known for its cultural heritage and its proximity to the
Tierra Alta Natural Park. Here, you can enjoy the local cuisine and relax.
Day 3: Stage 2: Horta de Sant Joan – Tortosa
After breakfast, we set off on our route along the Val de Zafán Greenway, following the route that was originally built to meet the Aragonese community’s desire for a seaport from which to process and market their produce, linking the towns of La Puebla de Híjar and Tortosa.
During the journey through mountainous terrain, you will not only pass through tunnels and over viaducts, but you will also encounter ravines, rivers (including the Ebro) and lakes, before finally reaching the end of this stage in Tortosa, where you can admire the cathedral and have time to enjoy a beautiful view of the River Ebro, one of the longest and deepest rivers on the Iberian Peninsula.

1. *Starting in Tortosa:*
The route begins in the centre of Tortosa, a town rich in history and heritage. You can visit La Suda Castle and the Cathedral before setting off.
2. *On the way to the Delta:*
Leave Tortosa heading south, following the River Ebro. The route is mostly flat and follows well-signposted country lanes and footpaths.

to the mainland by a sandy isthmus that used to be occasionally flooded by the tide, turning the fortress into a small island. We recommend taking some time here to stroll through the medieval streets and visit the castle. Leaving Peñíscola, you’ll continue on your
way until you reach Alcosebre, where you can recharge your batteries for the next day’s stage.
